On Monday, the Atlanta Falcons added a depth piece for the defensive end position with a few weeks to go before the 2024 NFL Draft. The Falcons have added a ton of help to the offense in free agency and via trade this offseason. However, defensive end is a glaring weak spot on an otherwise much-improved roster.
The Falcons hold the No. 8 pick in the draft. They’re expected to add a pass rusher with the pick potentially. Alabama Edge Dallas Turner is a favorite by many draft analysts to go the Falcons at No. 8 this year. Regardless of what happens in two weeks, the Falcons are adding to the position for training camp.
Per his agent, Mike McCartney, defensive end James Smith-Williams is signing a one-year deal with the Falcons.

The Washington Football Team drafted Smith-Williams in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has 85 tackles and seven sacks in his four seasons in Washington. Smith-Williams started in 27 games for Washington on a loaded defensive line. He started in a lot of games due to Chase Young’s injuries in Washington.
Per Pro Football Focus, Smith-Williams earned a 58.6 overall grade and a 50.0 grade for his pass rush.
